Country is a very diverse and interesting genre of music that has produced many great musicians during its time, such as Hank Williams and Marty Robbins.  Country and blues are responsible for the creation of rock and roll, a genre that has shaped American culture since its inception in the mid-1950s.

Folk music is music that is traditional in style.  Songs that are shared through tradition in a culture are folk songs.  Songs that emulate cultural styles are folk.  This includes Bluegrass, Cajun, and Zydeco, some of my personal favorite genres.

So, let's start this party.

Just finished watching an episode of Futurama on Netflix where Bender finally becomes a folk singer, and everything he sings about comes true.

Folk songs harbor all of the secrets of the universe.  No joke.

If you mean that it sticks to certain types of sounds and subject matter, that could literally be said of any musical genre on earth.
