- Prologue:
The year is 2409. It has been a very eventful millennia for mankind. It has been nearly four hundred years since the Great Collision, wherein the veils between the realms thinned to the point they passed their substance to one another. Doors were open which never should have been. The life force of Earth began seeming out bit by bit into another realm, causing the world to die slowly. Meanwhile a life force from another realm likewise passed into Earth and infected it with its own power. Amongst that infectious life force was the Ater, or Shadow People, who forever had dwelt in darkness and spent their spirits soaking in the blackness of the world around them. They were unable to live happily in Akeldama. The Ater are entities of negative energy which need Earth's life force to keep them sane. After many decades of feeding off of it, they gradually became rational, agreeable people. However the scars they left in the humans upon arrival are too deep to bear, and so the image of the callous black demons from the crossroads remains slathered upon the Shadow People. Nation after nation had fallen until Earth was once again only a jumble of tribes and clans, gradually rebuilding their cities and trying to stabilize government and order in their own ways. In an attempt to save their world from further damage, many set off to become "Shadow Hunters".
A Shadow Hunter has two primary objectives. They aim to close the rifts of existence across the world which allow the life force of Earth to leak out. Their second goal is to kill any Ater Shadow Person they can find and in this way purge their world of darkness forever. However around the time that the Shadow People rose to truly great numbers, prophets and seers worldwide foretold of a mysterious omnipotent being, locked away in what has since been called High Heaven. Elucido is the only name given to this being. It's existence is only proven by the appearance of the Lux, or Light People. The Lux are the ascended spirits of humans and Shadow Hunters around the world which have been reassembled into the bodies of supernatural creatures, designed to take on the Ater.
As chaos and death spreads across the face of the Earth, the time to prevent the extinction of one faction or the other is ephemeral.

- Introduction:
Welcome to Kalopsia. In this RP your characters will be members of one of three races: the Ater Shadow People, the Lux Light Beings, or the Humans. Essentially the world is undergoing an apocalyptic period wherein the Humans are attempting to keep established nations stable and living for the better of innocent lives. Years of war against the Ater have caused many nations to be crushed and destroyed. However living in Earth has altered the minds of the Ater and made them much more human. Unfortunately the humans and the Lux think otherwise and seek to destroy them. A struggle remains between the Lux and Humans as well, for the Lux seek power among Earth and wish to become superior to the Humans as the rightful owners of the realm. But in their eyes for the time being, they simply state, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
Before we get started you will need to know some info about the factions and the world. There are only a few major things about the world part, so I won't give it its entire section but will list it here.
- The world, being near 400 years into the future, is much more advanced technologically and had to be so if Humans hoped to survive the destruction. However, when government's fell much of this technology was lost. Fortunately some governments still remain and use all remnants of the technology and expand on it each day.
- The 3 largest world nations are scattered across the world. One exists in North America which is called The Federal Alliance of Surviving Men. The second exists in what was previously Russian owned soil and is called The Syndicate of The Remnant Mortals. The third lies in Africa and, while being less prejudiced against non-humans, is still very distrustful of them. It is called The Great Confederation of Human Life.
All human nations are essentially allies according to the Pact of Continuation. However, they will disagree politically from time to time.
- Factions:
The Ater, Shadow People
Appearance
The appearance from Ater to Ater varies diversely. However as a species their bodies take on that of a human as far as shape and structure goes. Their skin is usually gray, silver, or completely black. Their hair can be of any color, even that not natural to a human. The most common hair color is black, silver, or a lavender-silver color. Their eyes can also be any color, although the shape and design of their eyes varies from Ater to Ater. Their ears can sometimes be pointed or oddly shaped. Some are capable of growing claws or sharpened teeth while others cannot or choose not to. Some are even capable of producing spikes and quills over time and with different practices of grooming their bodies with magic. Ater skin is often very sleek and smooth.
Abilities
The Ater, being Shadow People, are able to control and manipulate shadows and darkness. Any and all shadow around them is a tool. They draw power from darkness and are even capable of storing large quantities of shadow force within their bodies for utilization later on. However, too much of this has negative affects on the mind of the Ater and cause them to become violent, unpleasant, rude, negative, depressed, sad, anxious, etc.
Erebokinesis is generally the term used for all of the Ater powers.
One of the most often used Ater powers is the ability to bind shadows together into a three dimensional form, creating various shadow-objects. Shadows can even be used to augment the Ater's own body and sprout tendrils and spikes, even other limbs. However these abilities depend on the Ater's magical experience and strength. The more experienced in magic an Ater is, the more they can do and the bigger the powers they can use.
Umbrageous Movement is another power used specifically by the Ater. With this ability they are able to condense their bodies into a two dimensional shadow and move about in this manner. They often call this, "Shadow Walking" and are able to move faster than humanly possible in this way. This is a rather easy task to perform for the Ater and all of them are able to do this.
Ater's are capable of creating Shadow Auras which can be used as a tool for fear inducement, production of shadow armor, flight, etc. These are incredibly hard to master, however. Another natural ability that comes easily to the Ater is a form of telekinesis. By sending shadows to an object they are able to move it without touching it and in the same fashion can levitate themselves and achieve flight for however long they may hold it. This often takes practice and the Ater learning to "be one" with the objects they affect. Shadow Healing is yet another ability, which allows an Ater to use the power of shadows to heal their bodily wounds. This is also very difficult and takes complete concentration and can be prevented by the slightest distraction. It is also a slow process and cannot be done quickly or in a chaotic environment.
The most powerful Ater are capable of taking on a "Dark Form" in which their entire body transforms into something akin to a demon or monster an are capable of immense destruction. In this state the entire plane of magic is free for them to pull whatever they wish from and use it at their disposal. These occurrences come but once in a lifetime and very few could even dream of experiencing such an event. However, every Ater does have the potential for a Dark Form in their blood and the form itself is already constructed for them from birth. To unlock it is a much different question and takes decades upon decades of magical experience or the use of some form of artificial catalyst.
The Lux, Light Beings
Appearance
The Lux, like the Ater, take on a mostly human shape and structure. Their skin is usually on a very light color spectrum. Some appear to have almost human-looking skin, but so pale that it is no longer human. Most are known to have pure white skin which sometimes may have a strange sparkling surface. Their hair may be any color, though it is tradition to keep it light. Their eyes, like the Ater's, may also be any color and in any shape or design. The Lux sometimes have pointed ears. Like the Ater they may choose to have pointed teeth or claws or not.
Abilities
The Lux, being the opposite of the Ater, are able to manipulate and control light. All light is a tool to them and they are also capable of storing it in their bodies, precisely like the Ater. Too much light stored in their body for too long can cause mental affects such as an overly happy, jittery, and delusive mindset. Said Lux will fall under the illusion that their body is invincible and will be completely accident prone and delusional. They will hallucinate as well and be dangerously joyful.
Photokinesis is the word used for generally all Lux abilities.
The Lux are capable of gathering light and solidifying it into three dimensions just as the Ater are able to. They are capable of augmenting their own body, sprouting tendrils and spikes of light and other objects. Again, the more powerful the Lux, the greater potential this power has.
The Lux are capable of converting their bodies into light and passing through the air as shining orbs. This is often called Photokinetic Movement or "Light Running". In this state their bodies can take on many light shapes and pass by at unbelievable speeds, but usually they prefer an orb or ball of light as it is much earlier to maneuver. Lux are also capable of Light Healing, which works the same way as Shadow Healing only with light.
Lux are also capable of creating Light Auras which are used for blinding, fear inducement, and sometimes peace-inducement. However this takes great strength and experience on the part of the Lux. And like the Ater, Lux are capable of telekinesis by spreading light force to objects and forcing them to move, and by extension can achieve flight by levitating themselves with light force. The Lux may also temporarily turn themselves invisible and create varying levels of transparency. It takes great skill to turn oneself totally invisible, nevertheless it is much easier than other magical tasks. Holding it for long periods of time is much more draining and if done long enough can cause a Lux to collapse, unconscious and completely visible.
The Lux also have a "Light Form" which varies oppositely to the Dark Form of the Ater. This power, which can only be achieved by the greatest of the Lux, is the ability to transform into a heavenly type of guardian or angelic beast capable of mass destruction and magical output. Each Lux is born with the blueprints for their own Light Form, however few ever achieve this during their lifetimes.
Humans
Humans have advanced tremendously as far as science and technology goes in order to survive against the wiles of the Ater in the past. Science was their only defense since they had no means of magic as their enemies did. Humans often utilize combat weapons they have created over the years. Machine guns, mini guns, rifles, assorted automatics, etc. The list is endless. New technology also involves an artificial telekinesis which some of the most privileged humans have obtained. Technological combat armor, weapons which utilize fire, melee weapons, etc. All of these are human inventions which are used to fend off the enemy.
- Rules:
1. First and foremost, no harassing, flaming, baiting, spamming, or the like in either the IC or OOC. All forum guidelines apply.
2. No Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu characters. If you don't know what this is or how to avoid it please refer to the stickies.
3. Do not God-Mod, Powerplay, Spotlight, Meta-Game, etc.
4. If you make an "evil" character, that is fine. But they must have a legitimate reason for being the way they are and they need proper motives, proper backstory, etc. Twisted views don't just happen.
5. Using magic exhausts characters so remember that there are limitations.
6. If you've read these rules, type, "Life" in the "Other" section of the sheet.
7. Be descriptive with the character sheet. Use lots of detail. If your sheet is too short or vague it may be denied.
8. No one liner posts. All posts in the IC must be at least one paragraph (5 sentences). Please use proper grammar and spelling.
9. Please do not create too many character for you to handle. It's better to have a few that you can expand on and develop than too many that you can't keep track of. So please only do what you can handle. Everyone is different though.
10. Please no large side plots. Let's keep the story basically on the same track.
11. People will die in this RP. Blood and gore are a part of it. If you can't handle descriptive violence and horror fantasy themes, this may not be your thing. Some other mature themes may be used as well to an extent (ex: drugs, alcohol, etc).
12. Do not kill other characters without their owners' permission.
13. Please talk to me about any potential special case characters.

I may join, this sounds interesting.
My only problem is I don't quite understand the plot... Is this basically a three-faction war RP?

I see. I'll try and work out a character sheet tomorrow, maybe I'll make an Ater, although I personally think it's a shame you can't have teenagers and children.
