That's very true and it leads to the question of how to make it possible for people to have fun in a roleplay.Mata Rahi wrote:People havin fun

Moderation in flexibility and cooperation. I think there's a balance there between players and GM that must be there so that neither party gets frustrated.

A good roleplay as far as story goes needs to have well developed characters which continue to develop as the story unfolds. The plot itself should be interesting and keep people entertained. I could make an enormous list but we have a stickie for that
And good moderation with a smart and clever GM does loads

A good RP in my opinion would feature as an absolute minimum:
- At least a full paragraph minimum of contributive IC. Preferably more is always welcome.
- No one going SuperMode or Mary-Sue on their characters.
- Maintaining at least an acceptable standard of English at all times within the IC

At some point, I would've almost all of these answers. I've went through a lot of growth as a writer, and if there's on thing I've learned from doing this gig for six years, it's this:
the characters.
The plot being sweet as candy is baller, and a smart and engaged DM makes a great difference, but both the plot and the big guy can be very easy to ignore if you've dedicated yourself to an awesome character, and if your fellow writers have made characters just as awesome. At that point, you're there for the interaction and nothing else. And you know what? If the plot sucks, and the characters are awesome, the characters can carry the plot. Let them have engaging goals and purposes, and really, that's all the motive you could need for a thrilling story to be had.
Every book you ever read, you would've stopped before you even reached the climax if you really didn't like the characters or if the characters bored you. Any good writer has no reason to have a boring character, because characters are also people, and people are complex.
Man, writing is great.
